Another gem discovered in Florida, thanks to the FARO event in Lake Mary. I met and admired the work of Seminole State College and its program with more than 100 Seminole County high school students. Jason M Gaschel, Director, Academic Innovation and Emerging Technologies at Seminole State College of Florida, talked me through this National Science Foundation-funded program.

The students built and operated a UAV (aka drone) as part of a competition. The top pilots go to the pizza delivery level where they carry an empty pizza box around the college campus. These students are exposed to so many great STEM concepts as well as learning about sustainable design, working in teams, and more. Thanks to the FARO event they were introduced to even more advanced technology and how it gets used on the university level. I hope they add a GoPro to the next iteration and reality capture some object or building from the air.

You can read about Seminole State’s program here.
