Hanging out with “the interns” at America Makes in Youngstown a couple of weeks ago, I glimpsed a small view of the future. The leadership at the facility have a clear view of 3D technology and that’s part of their mission, for sure. But they have a tighter grip on what’s really important: Nurturing a workforce that is capable of living in the new world of 3D – from design to printing.
In almost every company we visit, we hear something related to how hard it is to find good skilled talent. America Makes is developing at least a few of these important young adults in its own facility with the internship program. They are also building out a workforce program and resources to help the rest of us – as business owners, manufacturing companies, and big company executives who are trying to sort out how to hire.
If you need ideas and resources, take a look at what they are doing on the America Makes workforce page: Growing The 3D Workforce and follow the link to training materials if you need help in that area.
Also, if you’ve been itching to see how some of the latest desktop 3D printers work, and you happen to live near Youngstown, Ohio – head over to the America Makes facility this Sunday, August 3.
This event will be a public, family-friendly event with local Makers showcasing their talents, 3D Printer demonstrations as well as a tour of the America Makes facility from 1-4 pm. The official Maker City pledge will take place with Congressman Tim Ryan outlining how the city plans to strengthen current Maker programs and create new ones within this organized effort.
